Facings have a length and a tip opening. Besides, my own experience shows the tip angle (the angle between the tangent to the tip and the plane of the table) to tell a lot about the character of a facing. Yet, it is by no means a complete characteristic.
We know some more when we take measurements from point to point along the facing. The tables below show the height of the facing measured relative to the plane of the table. All values are in millimetres. Heights are measured with a standard set of gauges between the facing and a block on which the table of the mouthpiece rests. The zero of the length scale is taken at the mouthpiece tip. Lengths are determined with an accuracy of a quarter of a millimetre.
It should be noted that in several mouthpieces the facing was not always shaped properly symmetrical, in which cases the given value is that of only one of the two rails. The tables:
